The verse 14 is found in chapter 43 of Isaiah. Future deliverance from Babylon is announced through the memory of the exodus: the God who opened a path through the sea will do something new in the wilderness. Yet Israel has not responded faithfully; it has burdened God with its sins. Restoration therefore rests on divine mercy rather than the people’s merits.
