The verse 9 is found in chapter 12 of Jeremiah. Yahweh laments that his own inheritance has become prey and compares Israel to an abandoned house. Shepherds and nations destroy the vineyard, but they too will be judged. The future restoration of neighboring nations is conditioned upon their learning Yahweh’s ways, introducing a missionary dimension even within judgment.
