The verse 2 is found in chapter 21 of Jeremiah. During the siege of Jerusalem, Zedekiah seeks a word from Yahweh, but the answer does not promise deliverance. God declares that he will fight against the city and place before it the way of life and the way of death. Escape from judgment is not found in military strength, but in accepting the destiny God has determined.
