The verse 17 is found in chapter 35 of Jeremiah. God explicitly explains the contrast: the Rechabites obey the voice of their ancestor, while Judah repeatedly refuses to listen to Yahweh. Because of their faithfulness, the Rechabites receive a promise of continued presence before God. The lesson does not turn every family tradition into divine law, but uses their obedience as a mirror of Israel’s rebellion.
