The verse 14 is found in chapter 38 of Jeremiah. Zedekiah consults Jeremiah again in secret. The prophet gives one final instruction: surrendering to the Babylonians would preserve the city’s life, while resistance would lead to disaster. Zedekiah fears his own officials and does not obey. The episode shows how fear of people can prevent obedience to a clearly received word.
