They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.

The verse 45 is found in chapter 48 of Jeremiah. The second part of the oracle continues to denounce Moab’s arrogance, but ends with a promise of future restoration. The prophetic lament over the nation shows that judgment is not viewed with indifference. The final restoration introduces a note of mercy even after a long catalog of destruction.
