Verse 12 is found in chapter 1 of Joel. The mourning of a young woman over the loss of her bridegroom expresses the emotional depth of the catastrophe. Grain, wine, oil, and fruit trees disappear, so the devastation reaches food, economy, worship, and joy. Nature itself seems to participate in the community’s lament.
