Verse 12 is found in chapter 14 of Joshua. Caleb approaches Joshua to claim the inheritance Moses had promised him. His argument is based on his faithfulness when he was sent as a spy forty-five years earlier. Caleb recalls that he followed the Lord fully while others discouraged the people. His request for Hebron connects territorial reward with a history of perseverance and trust. The elderly Caleb is not asking for an exception because of weakness, but claiming the fulfillment of a word received decades earlier.
