Verse 33 is found in chapter 19 of Joshua. Naphtali receives an extensive northern inheritance including places such as Kedesh, Hazor, Beth-shemesh, and Beth-anath. The region will later become significant in Israel’s history and in Jesus’ ministry according to the Gospels. The text of Joshua, however, presents it primarily as territory assigned by lot. The geography of the tribal inheritance thus becomes a foundation for understanding the region’s later religious and political history.
