Verse 30 is found in chapter 24 of Joshua. The book concludes with the death and burial of Joshua, the burial of Joseph’s bones, and the death of Eleazar. Three generations are connected: Joseph represents the ancient hope associated with the land, Joshua represents the entry and distribution of the inheritance, and Eleazar represents priestly continuity. The conclusion states that Israel served the Lord throughout Joshua’s lifetime and during the days of the elders who knew his works, closing the book with a memory of faithfulness and preparing the later history of Israel.
