Verse 23 is found in chapter 6 of Joshua. Rahab and her family are preserved according to the covenant established with the spies. The contrast is significant: amid Jericho’s judgment, a foreign woman who recognized the God of Israel receives protection. The narrative also explains Joshua’s growing reputation, but attributes it to the Lord’s presence with him. The story of Jericho thus concludes by combining judgment, mercy, faithfulness to a promise, and confirmation of leadership.
