Verse 2 is found in chapter 8 of Joshua. After resolving Achan’s sin, God again permits Israel to advance against Ai and gives detailed instructions for an ambush. The difference from Jericho is important: here Joshua uses a concrete military strategy, but he still acts under divine command. Victory does not eliminate the need for human planning; rather, strategy is integrated into God’s direction. Joshua carefully prepares his men and positions the ambush behind the city.
