Verse 23 is found in chapter 1 of Judges. The house of Joseph attacks Bethel and uses a man from the city to locate the entrance. After the conquest, the man settles in the land of the Hittites and establishes a new city called Luz. The account shows a conquest carried out through strategic information and also reveals how survivors could relocate and preserve their communities outside Israelite territory.
