Verse 9 is found in chapter 10 of Judges. Israel again does evil and serves numerous foreign gods: the Baals, the Ashtoreths, the gods of Syria, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and the Philistines. The text presents an almost exhaustive accumulation of unfaithfulness. The Philistines and Ammonites oppress Israel, showing that abandonment of the Lord has reached considerable religious and political breadth.
