Verse 6 is found in chapter 19 of Judges. A Levite from Ephraim takes a concubine from Bethlehem, who eventually leaves him and returns to her father’s house. The Levite travels to bring her back and remains several days as a guest. When he finally begins his journey home, he decides to spend the night in Gibeah of Benjamin rather than in a foreign city. The choice prepares the moral contrast that will dominate the following scene.
