Verse 20 is found in chapter 19 of Numbers. The regulations detail how those who have touched a corpse must be purified and how contamination can be transmitted to people or objects. Death appears as a source of ritual impurity incompatible with proximity to the sanctuary. The regulation does not deny the reality of death, but establishes a procedure through which the community can recover the ritual condition necessary to participate in camp life.
