Verse 9 is found in chapter 21 of Psalms. Psalm 21 celebrates God’s response to the king after the request expressed in Psalm 20. The monarch’s desires are interpreted as gifts received from the Lord: life, honor, blessing, and permanence. The second part turns toward the defeat of enemies, showing that the king’s victory is understood within divine sovereignty. The final praise acknowledges that the king’s strength comes from the Lord and not from himself.
