Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

Verse 4 is found in chapter 43 of Psalms. Psalm 43 continues closely the lament of Psalm 42 and asks God to act as judge and guide. The request to send light and truth refers not simply to information, but to divine intervention leading the petitioner back to the sanctuary. The movement culminates at the altar and in God as joy. The final refrain again asks the soul why it should be downcast when it can still hope in God.

Allora verrò all’Altare di Dio, all’Iddio dell’allegrezza del mio giubilo; E ti celebrerò colla cetera, o Dio, Dio mio.
