I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 1 of Revelation. John’s reaction to the vision is to fall as though dead, but the heavenly figure lays his hand upon him and identifies himself as the First and the Last, the one who was dead and is alive forevermore. Christ’s resurrection becomes the foundation of his authority over death and Hades. The keys symbolize dominion, while the seven stars and seven lampstands receive an explicit interpretation: they represent the angels of the seven churches and the churches themselves. The vision therefore introduces the principle that the symbols will be explained from within the book itself.

E tenho as chaves da morte e do inferno.
