And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Verse 6 is found in chapter 1 of Revelation. John addresses the book to the seven churches of Asia and combines the Christian greeting with a majestic description of God as the one who is, who was, and who is to come. The seven spirits before the throne evoke the fullness of the Spirit’s work, while Jesus Christ appears as the faithful witness, firstborn from the dead, and ruler of the kings of the earth. The doxology transforms the introduction into a Christological declaration of identity: the one who freed his people through his blood is also the one who reigns over history.
