And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 14 of Revelation. A second harvest cycle appears with an angel holding another sickle, followed by the gathering of the vine of the earth. The grapes are thrown into the great winepress of God’s wrath, and the winepress is trodden outside the city. The image comes from prophetic language of the winepress as a representation of judgment upon the nations. The distance between the city and the winepress, together with the enormous extent of the resulting blood, intensifies the cosmic character of the judgment scene.
