Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Verse 17 is found in chapter 3 of Revelation. Laodicea is rebuked for being lukewarm, an image expressing a spiritual condition that corresponds neither to the usefulness of what is hot nor what is cold. Its self-perception of wealth and self-sufficiency contrasts with Christ’s diagnosis: poor, blind, and naked. The references to gold, garments, and eye salve directly correct the city’s confidence in its own resources. The call to buy from Christ and repent culminates in the image of Christ standing at the door and knocking. The promise of sitting with him on his throne presents communion with Christ as true wealth.

Porque tú dices: Yo soy rico, y estoy enriquecido, y no tengo necesidad de ninguna cosa; y no conoces que tú eres un cuitado y miserable y pobre y ciego y desnudo;
Como dizes: Rico sou, e estou enriquecido, e de nada tenho falta; e não sabes que és um desgraçado, e miserável, e pobre, e cego, e nu;
