Verse 16 is found in chapter 6 of Revelation. The sixth seal produces a cosmic upheaval: an earthquake, darkened sun, transformed moon, falling stars, and the displacement of mountains and islands. The powerful and the weak hide from the face of the one seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. The language draws upon prophetic images of the day of the Lord and presents the crisis as an overturning of human securities. The final question, "who can stand?", prepares the answer that will come through the vision of the sealed servants and the great multitude.
