And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.

Verse 24 is found in chapter 14 of 1 Samuel. Saul imposes an oath forbidding the army from eating during the battle. The decision does not strengthen the victory, but instead weakens the soldiers and produces extreme hunger. Jonathan, unaware of the oath, eats honey and recognizes that the prohibition has harmed the army. Later, the people consume meat with blood, violating a known regulation. The episode shows how impulsive leadership decisions can generate new transgressions and complicate a victory initially granted by God.
