Verse 5 is found in chapter 22 of 1 Samuel. David takes refuge in the cave of Adullam and begins gathering around himself people who are distressed, indebted, and discontented. The group gradually becomes a community under his leadership. David also seeks protection for his parents among the Moabites. Meanwhile, Doeg informs Saul about the help David received at Nob. The contrast is strong: David builds a vulnerable community while Saul responds to perceived threat through suspicion and violence.
