So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

Verse 3 is found in chapter 1 of 2 Chronicles. Solomon consolidates his kingdom and goes to Gibeon, where the tent of meeting was located, to offer sacrifices to God. The scale of the offering expresses the importance of this transitional moment between David and Solomon. Before developing the temple in Jerusalem, the new king presents himself before God at the established place of worship, showing that his political authority must begin under divine dependence.
