Verse 5 is found in chapter 1 of 2 Kings. The chapter begins with the rebellion of Moab after the death of Ahab and immediately presents Ahaziah’s personal crisis. After falling through the lattice of his upper room, the king seeks guidance from Baal-zebub, a deity associated with Ekron, instead of consulting the God of Israel. Elijah is commanded to intercept the messengers and asks a theologically decisive question: if Israel has a God, why seek an answer elsewhere? The king’s illness thus becomes a test of covenant faithfulness. The announcement of his death is presented not simply as a medical consequence, but as judgment related to his decision to seek a foreign deity.
