Verse 22 is found in chapter 10 of 2 Kings. Jehu continues his campaign by eliminating relatives and associates connected with Ahab’s house and then focuses his attention on the worship of Baal. He organizes a false religious gathering to assemble Baal worshipers and then orders their destruction. The temple of Baal is demolished and turned into a refuse site. The scene culminates a systematic elimination of the official structure of that worship in Israel. Yet the chapter immediately shows that Jehu’s reform has limits: destroying Baal is not equivalent to fully restoring obedience to the God of Israel.
