Verse 1 is found in chapter 3 of 2 Kings. Jehoram, son of Ahab, begins to reign over Israel and receives a different evaluation from his father, although he continues to cling to the sin introduced by Jeroboam. The rebellion of Moab, already mentioned at the beginning of the book, now returns to the center of the narrative. Israel seeks to regain control over Moab through a military campaign and requests the participation of Jehoshaphat of Judah and the king of Edom. The account again presents a political situation in which the decisions of kings intersect with the need to hear the prophetic word.
