Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.

Verse 22 is found in chapter 8 of 2 Kings. Jehoram begins to reign over Judah and continues the practices of Ahab’s house because of his marriage to a daughter of that dynasty. The account notes that Edom rebels and that Libnah also breaks away. The loss of territorial control accompanies the negative evaluation of the reign. The narrative does not explain every defeat solely in military terms: religious faithfulness and political circumstances are closely connected within the theological perspective of Kings. Jehoram’s death closes a reign marked by the influence of Ahab’s house.
