Verse 36 is found in chapter 9 of 2 Kings. Jezebel appears at the window when Jehu enters Jezreel. Her death and the subsequent desecration of her remains graphically fulfill the earlier prophetic word. The narrative recalls her role in promoting idolatry and persecuting the prophets. Dogs consume her remains, so she receives no honorable royal burial. The scene functions as the symbolic conclusion of Jezebel’s influence and as a demonstration that the announced judgment against Ahab’s house reaches even the figure who exercised great influence over it.
