It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

Verse 12 is found in chapter 16 of 2 Samuel. Shimei, from Saul’s family, curses David and accuses him of shedding Saul’s family blood. Abishai wants to kill him, but David refuses and allows him to continue cursing. The king even considers that the Lord may have permitted this humiliation. This response contrasts with the executions previously ordered against Saul’s killers and shows a David who, amid his downfall, is willing to accept humiliation without immediately turning every insult into an occasion for revenge.
