Verse 4 is found in chapter 16 of 2 Samuel. Ziba meets David carrying provisions and accuses Mephibosheth of remaining in Jerusalem in hopes of recovering Saul’s kingdom. David quickly accepts the accusation and gives Ziba Mephibosheth’s property. The scene introduces a sign of vulnerability in the king’s judgment: under pressure, David makes a decision based on an accusation that has not yet been verified. Later, Mephibosheth’s account will differ, forcing this hasty judgment to be reconsidered.
