Verse 14 is found in chapter 8 of 2 Samuel. Toi king of Hamath recognizes David’s victories and sends gifts. David dedicates to the Lord the silver, gold, and objects obtained from the nations. This practice is significant because it prevents military prosperity from being presented merely as the monarch’s private wealth. The text once again places God as the ultimate recipient of the resources and honor resulting from victory.
