Verse 9 is found in chapter 3 of Daniel. The accusers portray Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s refusal as a threat to the order of the kingdom. Their accusation shows how a religious conviction can be reinterpreted by political power as disloyalty. The accusation also contains an important observation: these men serve the king in administrative matters, but they are unwilling to serve his gods. The boundary between civil service and worship is clearly established.
