When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

Verse 11 is found in chapter 5 of Ecclesiastes. Qohelet observes systems of economic oppression and notes that the existence of successive authorities does not necessarily eliminate injustice. He also shows the paradox of one who loves money: the more he possesses, the more people consume his wealth. The worker may sleep peacefully, while the rich person may lose sleep worrying about his riches. Material abundance does not guarantee inner security or satisfaction.
