The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

Verse 16 is found in chapter 3 of Joel. The multitude gathered in the valley stands before the day of the Lord. The darkening of the heavenly bodies and God’s roar from Zion once again use cosmic imagery to represent a decisive intervention. In contrast to the nations, God is presented as a refuge for his people.
