And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

Verse 26 is found in chapter 7 of Joshua. Achan confesses that he took a robe, silver, and gold after seeing and coveting them. The sequence "I saw... I coveted... I took" exposes the internal process that leads to transgression. The objects are found hidden in his tent, and judgment reaches Achan and the elements associated with his offense. The episode explains Ai’s defeat theologically and shows that the prosperity of conquest cannot become individual appropriation of what God had reserved.

E levantaram sobre ele um grande montão de pedras, até o dia de hoje; assim o SENHOR se apartou do ardor da sua ira; pelo que aquele lugar se chama o vale de Acor, até ao dia de hoje.
