Verse 9 is found in chapter 6 of Judges. Israel again does evil, and Midian repeatedly invades the land, destroying crops and impoverishing the people. Israel cries out to the Lord, but before raising up Gideon, God sends a prophet who recalls the deliverance from Egypt and accuses Israel of disobedience. The divine response shows that the spiritual problem must be identified before military deliverance arrives.
