Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

Verse 5 is found in chapter 31 of Proverbs. The final chapter begins with the words taught to King Lemuel by his mother. The instruction first warns against consumption that can cloud the ruler’s judgment and make him forget the law. The king must use his authority to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Political responsibility appears here from a wisdom perspective: authority is morally expressed through justice toward the vulnerable and needy.
