Verse 12 is found in chapter 40 of Psalms. Psalm 40 begins with a testimony of waiting and deliverance: God brought the psalmist out of a pit and established his steps. The response consists not merely in offering sacrifices, but in recognizing that God desires inward obedience expressed through hearing and doing his will. Then the plea for help appears again, showing that past deliverance does not eliminate present need. Praise and dependence remain together.
