I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

Verse 2 is found in chapter 69 of Psalms. Psalm 69 combines an extreme plea arising from persecution with a confession of zeal for God’s house. Deep waters and mud represent a situation in which the psalmist feels he is sinking without being able to escape. Suffering intensifies because enemies attack him unjustly. After asking for justice and deliverance, the prayer ends in praise and hope for Zion and for those who seek God.

Atolei-me em profundo lamaçal, onde se não pode estar em pé; entrei na profundeza das águas, onde a corrente me leva.
