What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Verse 4 is found in chapter 8 of Psalms. Psalm 8 contemplates the greatness of God through creation and, precisely because of that greatness, asks about humanity’s place. The heavens, moon, and stars make human dignity appear paradoxical: a small creature is entrusted with responsibility over God’s works. The reference to dominion over animals does not present humanity as an absolute owner, but as a creature entrusted with exercising authority derived from the Creator.
