Verse 9 is found in chapter 18 of Revelation. The kings, merchants, and seafarers of the earth mourn Babylon’s fall because they lose the economic system from which they benefited. The laments list gold, silver, precious stones, fabrics, spices, metals, animals, and merchandise, showing the breadth of her wealth. The repeated expression "in one hour" contrasts enormous material accumulation with the speed of its disappearance. The chapter thus denounces a civilization whose prosperity is intertwined with domination and luxury, not simply the legitimate use of material goods.

Und es werden sie beweinen und sie beklagen die Könige auf Erden, die mit ihr gehurt und Mutwillen getrieben haben, wenn sie sehen werden den Rauch von ihrem Brand;

Et tous les rois de la terre, qui se sont livrés avec elle à l'impudicité et au luxe, pleureront et se lamenteront à cause d'elle, quand ils verront la fumée de son embrasement.
E i re della terra, i quali fornicavano, e lussuriavano con lei, la piangeranno, e faranno cordoglio di lei, quando vedranno il fumo del suo incendio;
E os reis da terra, que se prostituíram com ela, e viveram em delícias, a chorarão, e sobre ela prantearão, quando virem a fumaça do seu incêndio;
地上的君王,與她行淫、一同奢華的,看見燒她的煙,就必為她哭泣哀號;
