Verse 15 is found in chapter 20 of 1 Samuel. Jonathan confirms his commitment to warn David and establishes signals using arrows to communicate Saul’s response. The covenant includes a request for mercy toward Jonathan’s household when David reaches a position of power. This request is significant because Jonathan implicitly recognizes David’s future without attempting to compete with him. Their friendship thus becomes a covenant relationship anticipating the kindness David will later show Jonathan’s family.
