And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

Verse 10 is found in chapter 3 of 2 Kings. The military expedition leads the armies into a critical situation because of a lack of water. Jehoshaphat asks for a prophet of the Lord, and Elisha appears. His presence reveals a characteristic tension in the book: rulers need divine guidance after making political decisions. Elisha initially rejects Jehoram’s authority, but agrees to intervene because of Jehoshaphat. The episode demonstrates that the prophetic word is not subordinate to the king. Military power ultimately has to recognize that success does not depend solely on human strategies, but on God’s provision and direction.
