Verse 14 is found in chapter 3 of 2 Samuel. Abner offers to transfer Israel’s allegiance to David and negotiates the restoration of Michal, Saul’s daughter and David’s former wife. David accepts, and Abner persuades the elders of Israel and the tribe of Benjamin to recognize him. The unity of the kingdom begins to be built through political agreements, but the narrative reminds us that the transition is surrounded by personal interests, old alliances, and family wounds. David receives Abner without using force to obtain the crown.
