For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

Verse 2 is found in chapter 43 of Psalms. Psalm 43 continues closely the lament of Psalm 42 and asks God to act as judge and guide. The request to send light and truth refers not simply to information, but to divine intervention leading the petitioner back to the sanctuary. The movement culminates at the altar and in God as joy. The final refrain again asks the soul why it should be downcast when it can still hope in God.

Denn du bist der Gott meine Stärke; warum verstößest du mich? Warum lässest du mich so traurig gehen, wenn mich mein Feind drängt?
Toi, mon Dieu protecteur, pourquoi me repousses-tu?
