Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

Verse 14 is found in chapter 69 of Psalms. Psalm 69 combines an extreme plea arising from persecution with a confession of zeal for God’s house. Deep waters and mud represent a situation in which the psalmist feels he is sinking without being able to escape. Suffering intensifies because enemies attack him unjustly. After asking for justice and deliverance, the prayer ends in praise and hope for Zion and for those who seek God.

Tirami fuor del pantano, che io non vi affondi, E che io sia riscosso da quelli che mi hanno in odio, Dalle profondità delle acque;
Tira-me do lamaçal, e não me deixes atolar; seja eu livre dos que me odeiam, e das profundezas das águas.
