Verse 13 is found in chapter 11 of 1 Samuel. After the victory, some propose executing those who had despised Saul, but the king himself rejects revenge and attributes the deliverance to the Lord. Samuel then leads the people to Gilgal to publicly renew the kingdom. This scene presents Saul at a moment of humility and restraint. Recognizing that the Lord accomplished the deliverance is theologically important: the king’s military success must not be confused with political autonomy from God.
